Positive Women Victoria has assembled a photographic glimpse into the lives of women living with HIV, as part of the AIDS 2014 cultural program. Brendan Bale spoke to the organisation’s Peer Support Co-ordinator Michelle Wesley about the exhibition. Wesley says the exhibit, in which she is featured, should be a reminder for people to stay diligent and informed about HIV.
Body of Knowledge features thirteen prints of HIV positive women and two prints featuring HIV negative women to show how the families, friends and communities of women living with HIV are also affected. The photographs taken by Michael Coyne are paired with text created by playwright Graham Pitts in an effort to inform, educate and challenge attitudes of audiences.
The exhibition, which has toured Australia since 2007, will be on from July 23-24 at the Melbourne Town Hall.
